Have only had it a couple of days so these are first impressions.This is our fourth tablet. The first tablet had a resistive screen but features were good and we got hooked on Angry Birds. A Christmas present for my wife of a Sony S tablet is heavily used by her, so I bought a 7" Momo 9 for myself which has been excellent. I've also had three different Android phones so am reasonably adept at unlocking, rooting and loading new firmware (I've had to leave the Sony alone!). Important criteria for the new tablet were value for money, performance, screen quality,WiFi range, and battery life. I wanted a rooted tablet so bought the tablet from Topnotchtablets - a US company who produce firmware more suitable for non Chinese users (search for Roman at slatedroid). Because the device (like most Chinese tablets) is not CE certified it cannot be sold within the EU, and the supplier will ship from China, Hong Kong, etc. I ordered from the US and it arrived within 7 days from Hong Kong. I charged and tested it and then installed Roman's firmware which was downloaded from his site to give a rooted tablet. You could stay with the original firmware if rooting is not important for you - it came set up for English speaking and with a UK charger adaptor. Screen is high quality with good viewing angles, bright (put it down to 30% to save battery Wifi range is fine Performance is great. The Sony S with dual core is fast and responsive, and the PIPO compares well. The Antutu benchmark is actually considerably higher probably mainly due to the quad core graphics, so it should be great for gamers. Don't know about battery life - some reports are that even that it has a big 8000ma battery, the fast processor may reduce the time before charging. (not the latest Ipad, as it has a full HD screen) - it uses the same screen as the fruity variety, and it has a microSD card slot to expand the memory ! It's very quick, will play every game and type of video that I've thrown at it, the browser is excellent, it's slim, stylish, and has been mistaken for an Ipad on more than one occasion. The only fault I can pick with this excellent little tablet, and, I'm really nit-picking here, is that the sound was a little quiet through the speaker on playing back films - it's quite loud enough through headphones. MX player, downloaded from the Play Store quickly sorted that out though, as would one of the many volume boost apps available. The max is light, very cool, and easy to use. This machine is a good contender for the i pad in my opinion, at half the price. |
