This review is from: Samsung Series 5 550 3G Chromebook - Silver (Sim card not included) (Personal Computers) i ordered this last week because i really wanted something that i could use on the go, that wasn't my phone and i really like a keyboard, i wanted something nice and fast because i don't like waiting for things to load.the set up was super simple, took just a few minutes and i was away. It comes with a 3gb 3g sim but i didnt find this until after i had gone out and signed up for a 12 month 3g mobile broadband sim with 3, though i get more data with this anyway so i will use the free sim when i get to the end of my allowance! obviously, what you can do without the net is very limited, essentially making this a very expensive paperweight without the net, but when you have the net, it works like a dream. to get from pressing the button to actually being online and your previous pages loaded realistically takes around 15 seconds, rather than 8/10 but that includes signing in, connecting to 3g and loading the pages that you were already on so i am very impressed with this. shutting it down takes literally 4 seconds, so this is really useful when you are out and about and only have a few minutes with which to do something. one flaw i found in this is that i briefly disabled 3g and then found that i could not reenable it. i had to go into developer mode and delete local data in order to fix it, i hope updates will solve this as in seems very silly! the machine has a nice screen, is fairly light and can fit into the handbag i usually take places with me so this really fits into my life. I have no idea if these things will catch on, but for now i am very impressed and if it doesnt slow down as they say it won't, i will continue to be impressed by this. 11 of 11 people found the following review helpful Surprisingly useful, By Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?) Battery life is around 6 hours and there are a lot of good programs on the store to enhance the usability, such as open office for google drive. Out of the box its a little weak, but if you download 5 or so applications to enhance file support its excellent. All of which have been free so far. It wouldnt replace a full windows system but its very useful when battery life and portability are needed. Screen quality is above average, although the viewing angles could be alittle better. It also never gets more than lukewarm and starts almost immediately. I am training to become a teacher. I have a macbook pro, but I am too afraid of moving this about all the time, damaging it, losing it or having it stolen - I just didn't want the risk. But I also had problems with macs in the past and I am now an avid fan of cloud storage and I have everything synced into dropbox and google drive. I also have used the chrome browser for over 3 years now and I love it! I hate safari. So when I saw these new chromebooks come out I had to go and inspect them myself. I got mine from currys though not online.I gotta say I am really impressed with it. I stuck in my three broadband sim I had in a draw, topped it up and I can use the chromebook where ever I go now. One thing I really do love is that if you use google chrome as your main browser, it syncs everything automatically. It keeps everything up to date. This is something I really like, the seamless integration across my macbook, chromebook and now chromebox. Would it be able to replace an actual computer? Probably not no, but if you need something for internet browsing, writing documents etc... watching movies online then this is for you. It is lightweight, the battery is very good and it's stylish. And the OS gets periodic updates continuously making it more streamlined and overall a better experience. Many people don't like something so different to what you have seen with Windows and Mac OSX, but I am a fan of change and I really do recommend this to anyone who doesn't need all them other components in a computer that they simply wont need or use which just makes the laptop expensive and prone to damage. Chromebooks in my opinion are a step in the right direction for the future of our technology needs. Well for mine anyway.... BUY THIS! |
